Church E-Mail Blast

United Methodist Church at Newfoundland

Condolences are extended to the family and friends of our long-time member Frances E. Post who passed away on Tuesday, March 10.  The family will receive visitors on Friday, March 13 from 7pm to 9pm at the Stickle-Soltesz Funeral Home, 187 La Rue Road in Newfoundland.  A prayer service will take place on Saturday, March 14 at 10am at the funeral home.

United Methodist Men’s Breakfast will be held this Sunday morning, March 15, beginning at 7:30 am.  Join many of the men of the church for a hearty breakfast and an equally hearty discussion of what it means to be a man in our contemporary society from the perspective of our Christian faith.  We wrap up our discussion shortly after 9:00 am.  Hope to see you there this Sunday.

Didn’t it seem that the winter snowstorms hit around Sunday mornings!  If the weather, the dark, the cold kept you from church, you were not alone.  It’s been a rough winter but spring is on the way.  We encourage everyone to come to church as spring and Easter approach.  We also encourage everyone to bring their church pledges up-to-date.  Snow plowing and heating oil has put a strain on our budget but together we can continue moving forward meeting our bills and reaching out in mission.  Thanks!

Help CUMAC Fight Hunger

As is becoming tradition, we highlight our congregation’s mission efforts during worship on the third Sunday of each month.  This Sunday we hope many of you will bring in food that will be sent to CUMAC, the food bank located in Paterson.  Even as the economists are telling us about the recovery at the top, the folks at CUMAC are seeing more and more people who desperately need food come through their doors.  We can make a significant change in the lives of people by sharing food this Sunday in church.  Canned food that is high in protein is especially needed.  As a congregation we are faithful in our support of CUMAC.  Our last shipment of food and clothing was one of our largest ever.  Great work; please keep it up! We hope to see you this Sunday in church.  Thanks!

Adult Bible Study will be at the Parsonage on Wednesday evening, March 18, to continue our study of the Book of Revelation.  We will focus on Revelation chapters 4 and 5 and John’s vision of God and the Lamb.  Most of the Book of Revelation is a recounting of John’s visions, and these chapters describe his vision of heaven, God, and Christ, the Lamb of God.  All are welcome to attend and to join in the discussion.  It’s a great break in the middle of the week to focus on faith and the Bible.

Scholarship Opportunities from the Church – Here at the UMC at Newfoundland, we have a wonderful scholarship for a graduating senior who’s an active member of our church and plans to be a full-time student next year.  And there are a number of United Methodist scholarships and loans available through the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference and the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry.  These funds are for both traditional 18 to 21 year-old students and those who are beginning their higher education later in life or working on a second degree.  Rich can give you more information, and the websites also have all the information you’ll need, as well as application requirements and forms.  Check them out – the conference website is and the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry website is  Due dates for many applications are at the end of March, for the Newfoundland scholarship at the end of May.

Need a Hospital-type Bed – please contact Rich Knox at the church.  A friend of the church has a hospital bed that is no longer needed.  If you know someone who could use it, give Rich a call.
